Brief Biographical Sketch:

Originally from New York and an AB graduate of Harvard College and M.Phil graduate of the University of Cambridge, Zachary has always enjoyed studying the intersection of the biological sciences with its societal and humanistic counterparts, ranging from ethics to law to economics. In his current role at Genentech, he is responsible for bridging pipeline and portfolio management with product strategy in order to bring to market medicines in areas with high unmet medical need. Outside of work, you can find him playing the cello, doing community service, playing tennis, or trying to conquer a word puzzle of some kind. He will inevitably make a bad pun in class, causing you to groan.

B1815: Translational Medicine: Drug Development from Bench to Bedside in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 29 - 30, 2011)
Drug development is not just a scientific process. It incorporates a variety of perspectives, from the legal to the economic to the ethical. This course will serve as a three-hour interactive introduction to the state of the biopharmaceutical industry and the drug development process. Rather than simply focusing on how small and large molecules are created to treat the body, we will instead discuss how molecules move through clinical trials, what kinds of considerations are put into the drug development process, and what kinds of opportunities and challenges exist in the future for this fascinating industry.
