E5358: Materials Gone Wrong! in Splash Fall 2016 (Dec. 03 - 04, 2016)
It's a bad day if your phone screen cracks, but it's something else entirely if your airplane falls out of the sky. Learn about the science and engineering behind materials failures in history through demonstrations and hands-on experiments. Emphasis on HANDS-ON demonstrations, not a boring lecture! We'll experience first-hand how liquid metals can catastrophically destroy structural materials in applications like space exploration and aerospace. We'll explore how many materials can change dramatically with changes in structure, temperature, and other conditions. You'll walk away from this class with greater knowledge of the atomic structure of materials and a deeper appreciation for the diverse properties of the materials that surround our everyday life.

E4978: Materials Gone Wrong! in Splash Spring 2016 (Apr. 09 - 10, 2016)

E4440: Materials Gone Wrong! in Splash Spring 2015 (Apr. 11 - 12, 2015)
It's a bad day if your phone screen cracks, but it's something else entirely if your airplane falls out of the sky. Learn about the science and engineering behind materials failures in history through demonstrations and hands-on experiments. We'll explore the enormous demands we place on materials in applications like space exploration, as well as how they work. We'll also show how many materials can change dramatically with changes in temperature and other conditions. You'll walk away from this class with greater knowledge of the atomic structure of materials and a deeper appreciation for the diverse properties of the materials that surround our everyday life.

W4445: Nano Demo Hour in Splash Spring 2015 (Apr. 11 - 12, 2015)
Come check out some cool science demos that illustrate weird and wonderful properties of things at the nanoscale.

E3954: Catastrophic Failure: The Materials Preventing and Responsible for Disasters in Splash Fall 2014 (Nov. 08 - 09, 2014)
