S114: Fire and Flow - From gliders to rockets: Aerospace in action. in Splash! Fall 2008 (Oct. 18, 2008)
If you've ever wanted to watch a crazy Australian set fire to the stage, this is the class for you! The field of aerospace engineering contains a wide array of interesting examples of fluid mechanical and combustion phenomena. This class will provide an overview of the role that combustion (burning things) and fluid mechanics (the motion of gases and liquids) play in helping aircraft and rockets take flight. The class will include some live demonstrations of basic combustion experiments, as well as videos and possibly some hands on exercises.
