Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hi! I'm Mai. I came to Stanford from the Dallas, Texas area, and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering. I really enjoy all types of art, from drawing to painting to sculpture. I'm interested in medical imaging, computer graphics, space, physics, music, and science fiction.

This quarter, I'm teaching classes as part of an awesome team from the Stanford Society of Women Engineers! Feel free to ask us if you have any questions about what it's like to be an engineer.

E1388: Rube Goldberg Challenge in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
This class is going to teach the basics of Rube Goldberg machine design followed by a Rube Goldberg machine team challenge! A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately over-engineered machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. For a really cool, over-the-top example, take a look at Ok Go’s This Too Shall Pass music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w This class is going to be taught by an awesome team from the Stanford Society of Women Engineers!

E1093: How to play music wirelessly and build your own speaker! in Splash! Fall 2010 (Nov. 13 - 14, 2010)
In this class, we'll learn the basics of LEDs, solar cells, wireless technology, and even a little bit about electromagnetics so that you can understand and build your own wireless music player and homemade speakers. This class is going to be taught by an awesome team from the Stanford Society of Women Engineers!

H544: Street Painting In Chalk Pastel in Splash! Fall 2009 (Oct. 10 - 11, 2009)
This class is going to teach technical skill in chalk pastel, specifically touching on color theory, shading forms in color, rules of drawing perspective, and the history of street painting. The majority of the class, we will be working together to complete a street painting of Van Gogh's "Starry Night". No previous experience is required, you just have to be willing to get a little messy and have fun. I will provide hand wipes, but you should also wear shorts or pants that you don't mind getting chalk on. The chalk should wash out easily, but your pants will get dirty for the time being. Also, we'll be spending class outdoors, so I suggest bringing a hat and sunglasses.

H403: Pastel Drawing in Splash! Spring 2009 (Apr. 04 - 05, 2009)
We'll cover some drawing and color theory basics, but most of the class will be spent experimenting with pastels and drawing from life. No drawing experience necessary!

H437: Figure Drawing in Splash! Spring 2009 (Apr. 04 - 05, 2009)
Introduction to figure drawing concentrating on capturing the shape and proportion of the human body

H201: Pastel Drawing! in Splash! Fall 2008 (Oct. 18, 2008)
We're going to go over basic drawing technique and color theory, so absolutely no experience required! We're going to go draw outside and/or inside, focusing on drawing from life. However, what we draw is up to you! We can draw landscapes, each other, still lifes, or do interactive group drawings. If you have any specific ideas about what you want to draw, bring pictures to class!
