E1874: Carbon-based Electronics: Going Organic! in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 29 - 30, 2011)
In this class, we will look at a class of materials known as organic semiconductors. These are carbon-based materials that can conduct electricity and are used for transistors, LEDs and even solar cells. You will learn about what make these materials conductive, how the devices operate and compete in some logic games!

E1273: Materials of the Future (NOVA Making Stuff) in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
We will watch NOVA Making Stuff Series together in class. This program tells about the future of materials in terms of science and engineering. The original series consists of four different topics; Stronger, Smaller, Cleaner and Smarter. Among those four series we will watch two of them, Cleaner on Saturday(part 1) and Smarter on Sunday(part 2). Each program is about an hour long and we will have a discussion on what we watched. You can sign up just one part, but be sure to sign up both to see part 1 and part 2. *Part 1 is not required to take part 2. Part 2 of this class is E1575.

E1575: Materials of the Future (NOVA Making Stuff) Part 2 in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
We will watch NOVA Making Stuff Series together in class. This program tells about the future of materials in terms of science and engineering. The original series consists of four different topics; Stronger, Smaller, Cleaner and Smarter. E1057: Solar Cells and Batteries from Fruits in Splash! Fall 2010 (Nov. 13 - 14, 2010)
In this class we will explore how solar cells and batteries work. We will construct different solar cells and batteries using ordinary fruits and compare their performances. Students will gain a basic understanding of the physics behind these devices and hands-on experiences making their own batteries!
