M4306: The Latest Craze in Image Recognition in Splash Spring 2015 (Apr. 11 - 12, 2015)
In the past few years, there have been dramatic improvements in our ability to learn from data off Facebook, Twitter, and other media. Today, we can do truly amazing things, such as understanding language and detecting objects from images. We'd like to teach you how to do this. Come learn what makes our algorithms "intelligent", or why Silicon Valley is euphoric about a simple but powerful idea that is leading to state-of-the-art performances. We will teach you this from the very beginning, without assuming any prior understanding of how we can make sense of images, but prepare to be challenged!

M3968: The Question of the Century in Splash Fall 2014 (Nov. 08 - 09, 2014)
The deepest academic problem of our time is perhaps also the most human of them all. A computer science problem at heart, a few looks into it and you discover it says as much about philosophy and creativity as it does about mathematics and computation. The person who solves this puzzle could overnight become the most powerful man alive. Mozart would never have cared about a math problem more. There's also a million dollars to be won from it... Come find out with us what makes this single statement so profound. We will delve into puzzles, study how this problem appears all around us, and...who knows...maybe take a shot at solving it!
