Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hi! I'm a graduate student. I'm in my third year, working on a PhD in aeronautics. I use numerical methods every day in my research. I love to learn and I love to teach. I've done splash twice before; the first time I taught a class on paper airplanes and the second time I taught about the physics of music.

Past Classes

M2195: Intro to numerical methods in Splash! Spring 2012 (Apr. 21 - 22, 2012)
Ever wonder how to solve an equation like $$\sin(x)=\log(x)$$? Maybe you want to take the area under a crazy curve. Sure your graphing calculator can do it... but somebody must have programmed that! Computers have completely changed the way a lot of math is done in practice. This course will give a introduction to numerical methods. We'll talk about how some of these methods work, and we'll do some programming together on a TI-89 calculator to solve equations that would be impossible if we only had high school algebra and calculus.

P1825: Physics of Sound and Vibration in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 29 - 30, 2011)
An introduction to the mathematics and modelling of sound and vibration. Topics include: How sound waves are created, travel through the air, and are detected by the human ear. The role of overtones in sound waves and the reason different musical instruments sound different while playing the same note.

E1424: Fly Like Paper Get High Like Planes! in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
Learn how to build and fly paper airplanes. There will be a class competition to fly the furthest. We will also teach basics of aerodynamics, flying qualities, and aircraft design.
