Brief Biographical Sketch:
Originally from San Diego, I first came to Stanford in 1996 as an undergrad where I majored in biology and music. I subsequently moved east for medical school and residency, but the Farm called me back for fellowship, and I am currently in my last year of hematology/oncology training at the Stanford Cancer Center. I found Insight Meditation in 2002 when I was a high-strung, stressed out medical student. The practice has definitely helped me learn to relax and put things in perspective. Looking forward to meeting you at SPLASH! Past Classes(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)H496: Introduction to Insight Meditation in Splash! Fall 2009 (Oct. 10 - 11, 2009)
Do you have stress in your life? Feel like your mind sometimes races out of control? Want to develop a way to center yourself, finding the place of peace within you, even when craziness surrounds you?
In this class we will explore some basic principles of Insight Meditation, a Buddhist meditation method of exploring the mind that cultivates wisdom and compassion. We will specifically discuss conditioned patterns of mind that often create stress and suffering and how seeing these clearly can lead to joy and equanimity.
