ESP Biography

How would you describe a transistor to your five-year-old cousin? What about the inner workings of a CD player? Analogies have enormous power for bridging the gap between engineers and non-engineers, yet we rarely practice creating them. In this class, you'll learn how to explain scientific concepts to anyone on the street. You'll build your own invention out of Legos, then use an analogy to describe how it works and what it's used for. Ever wondered what really makes your computer turn on? What makes your car radio turn off when you're driving through the mountains? How do iPhone touchscreens work? The answer to all these questions and more can be found in electrical engineering! During this class, you'll learn a brief overview of electricity and gain understanding of what it means to be an electrical engineer. You'll build a lamp to test the concepts we discuss in class.
